It’s time for this month’s round-up of all the exciting events in East Texas. Below you will find a variety of things to do, places to be, and food to eat. I will update this list again once more on the 15th with anything else that pops up.
Turnip Green Festival

Friday features a street dance; Saturday car and bike show, sports tournaments, kid’s rides, ponies, games, turnip green cook-off, domino tournament, entertainment, talent show, and more.
28th Annual Blueberry Festival
Date: June 10 | Location: Nacogdoches | Cost: None to enter
As the only state-sanctioned blueberry festival in Texas, this delicious annual event attracts more than 19,000 people to downtown Nacogdoches for a day-long celebration of the annual blueberry harvest. Activities for blueberry lovers of all ages include a bounce park, make-and-take arts and crafts, a pet parade, “The Big Blue” mural painting, Blueberry Hill Soda & Sweet Shoppe, pie eating contests, washer board tournament, and food and arts vendors.
33rd Annual Tomato Fest
Date: June 5-11 | Location: Jacksonville | Cost: None to enter
There will be tennis, volleyball, softball, baseball and golf tournaments, a car show, salsa contest, arts and crafts, gospel concert, and plenty of homegrown tomatoes to eat!
59th Annual Dairy Festival
Date: June 9-17 | Location: Sulphur Springs | Cost: None to enter
Founded in 1959, The Hopkins County Dairy Festival honors our hardworking Dairy Families and the impact the Dairy Industry has on our local economy. The 10 day festival, held the annually on the second and third weekend of June, includes a Hot Air Balloon Rally, 5K Milk Run, Parade, Milking Contest, Ice Cream Freeze Off, Carnival, Dairy Foods Show, Junior Dairy Livestock Show and the Dairy Festival Scholarship Pageant and Queen’s Coronation.

20th Annual Neches River Rendezvous
Date: June 3 | Location: Lufkin | Cost: $45-$60
This unique 10-mile canoe trip down the Neches River is fun for everyone! You can choose to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenic surroundings and wildlife, or observe the numerous birds, squirrels, wild hogs, and alligators.
Running of the Blueberries 5K Run/Walk
Date: June 10 | Location: Nacogdoches | Cost: $35
Run/walk a scenic 5K on the Lanana Creek Trail. Race proceeds will benefit Dog Park Nacogdoches, so all dogs are also invited to register, run and receive a doggie bandana!
Milk Run 5k
Date: June 9 | Location: Sulphur Springs | Cost: $22-$27
Imagine running down a country road, on a beautiful summer evening in Hopkins county, beneath a sky filled with colorful balloons. All runners 18 years and older will have their bib numbers entered in a drawing for a ride in a hot air balloon on Saturday June 10th. Proceeds from the Milk Run directly support the youth scholarship programs of 59th Annual Hopkins County Dairy Festival.
Tomato Fest 5K and Fun Run
Date: June 10 | Location: Nacogdoches | Cost: $20-$30
All Smiles is hosting the Tomato 5 – a 5k race (and a 1 mile Fun Run) the morning of Tomato Fest. All proceeds will go to H.O.P.E. – Helping Others Pursue Enrichment – a local Jacksonville charity.
Big Pines Blues Festival
Date: June 2-3 | Location: Longview | Cost: $20-$60
Two day outdoor blues festival, formerly T-Bone Walker Blues Fest. There will be a car and cycle show, fun run, food vendors and beverages! Proceeds generated by the festival will be reinvested in Longview and the regional community through Blues in Schools educational events, donation of guitars and workshops to youths who are interested in music and unable to afford instruments, and donations for youth music-therapy programs.
5th Annual Junebug Music and Arts Festival
Date: June 17-18 | Location: Ben Wheeler | Cost: $20-$60
Incredible festivities with art, entertainment, and great information on going green! The festival showcases goods from local farmers, Fair Trade + sustainable living products, live artist demonstrations, local wineries, Texas singer/songwriters, and more.
Classic Family Movie in the Park- A Royal Wedding
Date: June 3 | Location: Palestine | Cost: Free
This months feature is Royal Wedding-1951 staring Fred Astaire, Jane Powell and Peter Lawford. Come and enjoy a free family movie night. Movie begins at dark in Reagan Park. Don’t forget your blankets or chairs.
Build a Better World
Date: June 6 | Location: Kilgore | Cost: Free
Stop by the City Park and introduce yourself to the men and women who help keep Kilgore safe. Representatives from the Kilgore Police Department and the Kilgore Fire Department will be there along with the awesome tools of their trade. Get an inside look at the firetrucks and police cars. While you are there, you will be able to register for the fun summer reading program and pick up your reading packets. Charlie’s SnoCones will be on hand to help cool off the young readers!
80th Anniversary Gladewater Rodeo Round-Up
Date: June 7-10 | Location: Gladewater | Cost: $7-14
Events for all ages, from the 6 & under Mutton Busters to the adult rodeo events.
Bark in the Park Dog Walk
Date: June 17 | Location: Marshall | Cost: $20-$25
There will be a dog walk, pet adoptions, kid games, face painting, and more.
Moonlight Special Dinner Train
Date: June 25 | Location: Palestine | Cost: Varies
This special dinner train departs the PALESTINE Depot for an enjoyable ride through beautiful East Texas countryside on the night of a full moon.
Sunday Fun Day Family Matinee Train Ride
Date: June 25 | Location: Palestine | Cost: $35-$68
This is the perfect ride to introduce kids to train travel. Receive one free child’s ticket with a purchase of an adult ticket. Bring the family and create a memory on board this season. Departs Rusk Depot.
